Performance Forage Starts Underground

We don't spray our way to a green field. We build it — microbe by microbe, root by root. By managing a complex soil biology rather than chasing yield numbers, Summit hay delivers a nutritional profile that supplements simply can't replicate.

With a background in Agricultural Biotechnology and direct access to the Replenish Nutrients biological fertility program, every decision on these fields is informed by science.

Soil Biology

Fungal-dominant soil networks for superior mineral uptake and plant resilience.

Biological Fertility Inputs

Replenish Nutrients biological fertility program — building soil health from the ground up.

Lab Verified

Independent forage analysis on every batch, every time.

Equine Specific

Grown and harvested with horse physiology — not cattle markets — in mind.

Five Varieties. One Standard.

Small square bales (45–60 lbs) — sized for hand-feeding, easy to store, easy to ration. Every cut lab-tested and harvested with horse physiology in mind.

Timothy/Brome

COOL SEASON · LOW SUGAR · EASY KEEPER

The horseman's gold standard. Excellent for easy keepers, performance horses, and metabolic-sensitive feeders. Predictable, consistent nutrition every cut.

Best For Easy keepers, IR/PPID
Bale Type Small square · 45–60 lb

Crested Wheat

HARDY · DROUGHT TOLERANT · VERSATILE

A resilient cool-season grass with a reliable nutritional profile. Good palatability and digestibility — well suited to mature horses and mixed herds.

Best For Mature horses, mixed herds
Bale Type Small square · 45–60 lb

Mixed Grass with Alfalfa (10%)

GENTLE BLEND · GRASS FORWARD · CERTIFIED ORGANIC

A soft, grass-dominant mix with just enough alfalfa to boost palatability and protein without tipping into high-calcium territory. Certified organic. Great for easy keepers that need a little more.

Best For Easy keepers, seniors
Bale Type Small square · 45–60 lb

Mixed Grass with Alfalfa (40%)

BALANCED BLEND · WORK + MAINTENANCE · SECOND CUT ONLY

The middle ground — substantial alfalfa content for horses with higher protein demands, balanced by a grass base for digestibility and texture. Versatile across disciplines. Second cut only — currently unavailable.

Best For Working horses, all-purpose
Bale Type Small square · 45–60 lb

Availability varies by cut and season — current inventory is shown in the banner above.

How pricing works

Every operation is different — quantity, delivery distance, storage access, and timing all factor in. Submit a quote request and we'll come back to you within 24 hours with a clear, all-in price. No back-and-forth, no surprises at delivery.

Three Principles. Every Bale.

01

Soil-First Stewardship

Healthy hay starts with healthy ground. We feed the biology — microbes, mycorrhizae, root architecture — and let the plant do what biology has spent ten thousand years optimizing.

02

Scientific Transparency

Every batch ships with an independent lab report. You see the numbers we see. No guesswork, no marketing claims dressed as data.

03

Uncompromising Equine Excellence

This is horse hay — grown, cut, baled, and stored with horse physiology in mind from the first decision to the last. Not cattle forage retasked. Not commodity hay rebranded.

Ag Biotech Biological Fertility Diamond Valley
Partner farm: Replenish Nutrients

Built by a Scientist. Grown by a Family.

Tate's approach combines academic training in agricultural biotechnology with direct, daily fieldwork. The result is hay grown the way modern soil science says it should be — and tested the way modern horse owners expect it to be.

"I don't just grow hay. I manage a biological system — and the results show up in the bale."

Summit Horse Hay operates in partnership with Replenish Nutrients, an agricultural company applying biological fertility programs across thousands of acres of Alberta farmland. That relationship means our hay benefits from the same biological inputs and soil-science thinking that's reshaping how high-performance forage is grown.

Before You Order

The most-asked questions from new customers. If yours isn't here, ask us directly.

What is your minimum order?

There's no hard minimum — we sell by the bundle (21 bales) or by individual bales for local pickups. Delivery economics work best at 3+ bundles, so if you only need one bundle, pickup is often the smarter option. We'll always tell you honestly which makes more sense for your situation.

What's a bundle?

We sell hay in bundles — a stack of 21 small-square bales arranged 3 bales high × 7 bales wide. Each bale weighs 45–60 lbs, and a full bundle fits in the box of a standard pickup truck. Bundles are easy to handle and store. If you need a single bale, just ask — we're flexible for local pickups.

Do you deliver, and where?

Yes. We deliver across Southern Alberta — Diamond Valley, Okotoks, High River, Black Diamond, Turner Valley, Calgary, and surrounding areas. For longer distances, ask us. We often coordinate with other deliveries to keep your cost reasonable.

See our service area map for the full delivery zone.

What does delivery cost?

Delivery is +$3/bale and includes skidsteer unloading and stacking wherever you need it on your property. Pricing may vary for locations outside our service area — just ask and we'll give you a straight answer.

How fresh is your hay?

Always current-season. We bale in the field, store it inside, and test every cut with an independent lab. We don't broker old inventory or carry hay over from previous years — what we sell is what we grew this season.

Can I see lab results before I order?

Yes. Lab analysis from our current cut is available on request — just mention it in your quote request and we'll send it before you commit. Every order also ships with the matching lab report, so you know exactly what your horses are eating.

Which hay is right for my horse?

Tell us about your horse in the order notes — discipline, age, any metabolic considerations (insulin resistance, PPID), and what they're currently eating. We'll recommend the right cut.

Quick guide: Timothy/Brome suits most easy keepers and metabolic horses. Alfalfa/Brome (70/30) supports working, growing, and lactating horses. Mixed Grass with Alfalfa (10%) is a gentle step up for easy keepers needing a little more. Mixed Grass with Alfalfa (40%) is a versatile all-purpose blend. Crested Wheat is great for mature horses and mixed herds. Not sure? Tell us about your horse in the notes and we'll recommend the right cut.

How do payment and delivery work?

Once you submit a quote request, we confirm pricing, availability, and a delivery window — usually within 24 hours. Payment is e-transfer or cash on delivery. We unload at your storage location (barn, trailer, or stack) and leave the lab report with you.
